Teamwork makes the dream work. For a business to grow and remain competitive, team building is crucial. According to Forbes, “Team building is the most important investment you can make for your people.” It is the glue that keeps the team together. To begin week two of the GBI program, we went to Bradford Woods to do team building activities and partake in the “Bradford Woods Experience”. The activities were an efficient way to develop our strengths and address our weaknesses. The coaches were awesome and nice. We were split into different groups to do the activities in a closer setting. Ally, a community health student at Indiana University, coached our group. There was a Self-introductory exercise. Each member has to catch a ball whose surface contained questions like, “What is your biggest fear?” and “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” No matter how different we are or where we come from, there are always common things we can relate to. There were also blindfolded activities that taught efficient communication. During those activities, the group is split between two teams who compete against each other. In each team, you have to give clear and simple verbal and non-verbal instruction to the blindfolded person in order to succeed. Another activity that required strategy and cooperation was to flip a carpet with no one stepping off of the carpet. The most enjoyable activity was the rope climbing nets. I have a big fear of heights. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it so much especially after reaching the top. There were other activities with the other groups ranging from back-to-back drawing to lining up on a tall piece of wood and have to organize each other according to age, birth month or height. The Bradford Woods activities don’t end there, each one has a life lesson we should take with us in our everyday life.
